Dance Instructions

Cranberry Tart

32 J 3C    7-Year Itch

1-16 FUGUE FIGURE: 1M set, cast to 2nd place, set, petronella to end between 3C. 1M and 3C set in a line of 3 across, advance for 2 bars, retire for 2 bars, then 1M advance for 2 bars (3C standing still). Meanwhile, 1W wait for 2 bars, then dance the same as 1M's bars 1-14, but ending between 2C after the petronella turn.

17-24 1W turning sharply over her right shoulder to begin, 1C, in tandem, dance a RS reel of thee across with 2C. 1M follows behind 1W throughout. 1C finish in 2nd place on own sides facing down.

25-32 PERFORMANCE ENDING: 6-bar reels of three on the sides, 1C giving RS to 3C to begin. On bars 31-32, 1C and 3C pass RS to finish in the order 2C, 3C, 1C.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: Dance three times through.

Gypsy Glen

32 S 3C    Dunedin 2

1-4 All set on the sides. 1C cross RH while 2C and 3C dance RH across halfway.

5-8 All set on the sides. Bottom couple (2C) cross RH while top two couples (1C and 3C) dance RH across halfway.

9-16 1C dance the petronella figure, advancing to face 2nd corners on bar 16.

17-24
CORNERS PASS & TURN VARIATION: 1C pass 2nd corners RS and dance in through the sides of the set and pull back RS to face 1st corners, while the 2nd corners turn each other RH. 1C 1C pass 1st corners RS and dance in through the ends of the set and pull back RS to face up and down, while the 1st corners turn each other RH.

25-32 1C dance 6-bar RS reels of three across the set, 1W with top couple, 1M with bottom couple. 1C pass each other LS to finish in 2nd place on own sides, in the order 3C, 1C, 2C

PERFORMANCE NOTE: Dance twice through only.

Blue Bonnets

32 J 2C    RSCDS 3

1-8 1W and 2M advance and retire, then dance back-to-back.

9-16 1M and 2W repeat bars 1-8.

17-24 1C down the middle and up.

25-32 PERFORMANCE ENDING: 3-couple poussette

Waterfall Reel

32R 3C    Variation of McKinnell, "Waterfall Glen"

1-2 1C cross down to 2nd place facing out as 2C dance out and up to 1st place.

3-4 1C dance a mirror turn halfway with 3C to change places, 1W & 3M by LH, 1M & 3W by RH. 3C end facing out.

5-12 Repeat bars 1-4 twice more from new positions, ending in original order on partner's side of the set.

13-16 1C, 2C, 3C set on the sides, then turn partner by RH, 1C & 2C ending in promenade hold facing up, 3C end on own sides in 3rd place

17-24 1C & 2C dance the allemande, 1C finishing facing 1st corners.

25-32 1C turn 1st corners RH, pass RS, turn 2nd corner RH, and and pass partner RS (M crossing in front of W) to 3rd place as 3C dances up to 2nd place.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: Dance three times through.

Snow on the Mountain

32 J 3C    Friedman~Shedlov

1-4 1C cross RH and cast to 2nd place.

5-8 1C dance half a figure of eight, 1W up around 2W, 1M down around 3M, pulling RS back at the end to finish back-to-back in the middle of the set facing out own side.

9-16 Petronella-double-triangles, 1C rotating 1/4 on bars 15-16 to finish 1W facing up, 1M facing down.

17-20 1W with top couple (3C), and 1M with bottom couple (2C), dance right hands across once round in 4 bars, 3M and 2W finish facing out.

21-24 3M, followed by 3W and 1W and 2W, followed by 2M and 1M, chase CW half way around the set to finish in the order 2C, 1C, 3C on own sides, and flow into:

25-32 Circle six hands round and back.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: Dance three times through. 1C step to the bottom on bars 1-2 of the next repetition.

Goat Fell Gallop

32 J 4C    Goldring

1-8 1W and 2W, and at the same time 3M and 4M, dance across the set, pass standing partner LS and cast, women down and men up, to change places (1W follows 2W down the men's side, 4M follows 3M up the women's side). They repeat bars 1-4 from new positions, passing opposite person LS to finish in original positions.

9-16 1M and 2M, and at the same time 3W and 4W repeat bars 1-8, but pass partner by RS to begin.

17-24 1C slip down the middle and up, finishing in the center facing up.

25-28 1C cast off to 4th place. Others step up on 3-4 of the phrase.

29-32 All turn partner LH.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: Dance three times through.

Trysting Place

32 S 2C    RSCDS 35

1-8 1C and 2C set and link. Repeat to original places.

9-16 1M and 2W cross RH, set and repeat to original places while 1W and 2M set and cross RH, and repeat to original places.

17-24 1C and 2C dance RH across and LH back, finishing in a line of 4 up and down the middle of the set, women facing down, men facing up, both hands joined with partner.

25-32 1C and 2C dance the Highland schottische poussette.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: Dance twice through with two 2-couple sets arranged as a 4-couple set (i.e. "ends, ends").

Like the Morningstar

32 R 4C square   Mortimer

1-8 Men cast behind partner and dance into the center, dance LH across once round, dance around partner giving RS, and finish in original places.

9-16 Women repeat bars 1-8, dancing RH across in the center, and giving LS to dance around partner.

17-20 1C and 3C dance half a ladies' chain.

21-24 2C and 4C repeat bars 17-20.

25-28 All turn corner RH 1 1/2.

29-32 All turn partner LH 1 1/2. Men finish facing out, ready to begin again.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: Dance three times through. At the end of the last repetition, on bars 29-32 all birl and finish facing out.

Meridan Cross

32 S 3C    Variation of Mercat Cross/Dunedin 3

1-4 1C and 3C SET and PETRONELLA into centre, women facing down, men facing up.

5-8 1C and 3C dance a HALF REEL OF 4, 1M and 3W giving LH as they pass each other at the end of the reel.

9-12 1M, 3W & 2C dance LH ACROSS WHILE 1W and 3M CHASE CW halfway.

13-16 1C and 3C repeat bars 5-8.

17-20
Repeat bars 9-12.

21-24
1C and 3C turn RH 1 1/4 to finish in original places.

25-32 1C and 2C CIRCLE halfway to the left (2 bars) and TURN 1/2 BH with partner. 1C stay in the middle and repeat with 3C, 1C finishing in 3rd place.

Ian Powrie's Farewell to Auchterarder

1-8 All CIRCLE round and back.

9-24 WOMEN'S TRACK: Women dance in front of partner, behind the next man, and into the center (4 bars), dance RIGHT HANDS ACROSS once around, dance in front of opposite man, behind the next man, and into the center (4 bars), dance RIGHT HANDS ACROSS once around ending in front of partner.

25-32 All PROMENADE clockwise.

33-40 1M followed by 1W and 3M followed by 3W, continuing to dance in a clockwise direction, dance behind 2C and 4C, respectively, and around in front to end facing them (1W facing 2W, 3M facing 4M , 1M facing 2M, 3W facing 4W in lines of 4 across the set), women cutting between the standing couples and men dancing around the far side (4 bars). All SET and TURN RH.

41-48 All dance REELS OF 4 across the set.

49-56 1C and 3C dance FIGURES OF 8 around 2C and 4C, repectively.

57-64 1C and 3C dance LEFT HANDS ACROSS and DANCE OUT between/around 2C and 4C, repectively (same path as they danced in on bars 33-36) the 1W and 3W leading their partners back to original places.

65-96 2C and 4C REPEAT bars 33-64.

97-104 All PROMENADE counter-clockwise.

105-120 MEN'S TRACK: Men dance in front of partner, behind the next woman, and into the center (4 bars), dance LEFT HANDS ACROSS once around, dance in front of opposite woman, behind the next woman, and into the center (4 bars), dance LEFT HANDS ACROSS once around ending next to partner in original place .

121-128 All CIRCLE to the right and back.

Festival Frolic

32 S + 32 R Friedman-Shedlov

Showcase dance for two couples in a diamond formation. Women are at the top and bottom of the set with their partners to their left on the sides.

Strathspey:

1-8 All dance the PETRONELLA figure to end on the opposite side of the set.

9-12 All dance RIGHT HANDS ACROSS HALFWAY to original positions and SET.

13-16 All dance LEFT HANDS ACROSS HALFWAY. Men CAST to the right one quarter of the way around the set, while women continue to TURN LH to end facing partners in a line up and down the set.

17-24 All SET using Highland Schottische step.

25-32 All dance a REEL OF FOUR. On bars 6-8 of the reel, women curve round to the right, ending in progressed positions on the sides of the diamond, one place counter-clockwise from where they began the dance. Men finish the reel as usual, ending at the top and bottom of the diamond, one place counter-clockwise from where they began the dance.

Reel:

1-32 REPEAT bars 1-32 of the strathspey in reel time, but forming a line across the set on bar 16. On bars 17-24 use pas de basque coupe setting step.

Cranberry Tart
32 J	3C 7-Year Itch
1-16	FUGUE FIGURE: 1M set, cast to 2nd place, set, petronella to end between 3C. 1M and 3C set in a line of 3 across, advance for 2 bars, retire for 2 bars, then 1M advance for 2 bars (3C standing still). Meanwhile, 1W wait for 2 bars, then dance the same as 1M's bars 1-14, but ending between 2C after the petronella turn.
